Cronulla Sharks star banned from Origin

Cronulla Sharks flyer Valentine Holmes has been fined for public nuisance and obstructing police after breaking curfew at Queensland’s Emerging Origin camp in Brisbane.

According to reports, Holmes allegedly jumped a taxi queue early on Sunday morning and then had an altercation with a cab driver.

Security was called and Holmes ran, and when police caught up with him he refused to produce identification. He was then fined for obstructing police and being a public nuisance.

The Queensland Rugby League has decided to ban Holmes from its representative programs for the next 12 months. The Cronulla winger is subject to further investigation by the QRL and NRL Integrity Unit.

Maroons coach Kevin Walters expressed his disappointment at Holmes’ actions.

“Regrettably, there were some players who made poor choices after we had wrapped up the official part of that day’s program,” Walters said.

The Sharks said they were aware of an alleged incident involving Holmes.

“We are conducting our own enquiries into this matter in addition to assisting the QRL with their investigation,” it said in a statement.

“Until such time as all of the facts are determined our club will be making no further comment.”
