Sheffield sign jacks

Sheffield Eagles have signed Australian halfback Rhys Jacks until the end of the 2016 season.

Jacks joins the Eagles after an initial three-week trial which followed a month’s trial at fellow Kingstone Press Championship club Bradford Bulls.

The 26-year old Australian previously playing at South Logan Magpies, in the Queensland Cup and qualifies to play for Canada, who he recently played for in the 2017 World Cup Qualifiers.

“I’m delighted Rhys has decided to ‘Join The Journey’ here at the Eagles,” Eagles Director Mark Aston said.

“He has put a great deal of effort in over the past few weeks and has impressed me and the backroom staff.

“It’s no secret that we were in the market for a halfback after failing to land Beau Henry and when the opportunity came up to trial Rhys, we jumped at the chance.

“We have two young halves in Cory (Aston) and Dave Hewitt and they’ve been great but we need an extra player in this area to ensure we can rotate them, develop them in the correct manner and also have competition for places.”

“There is no doubting Rhys’ ability and enthusiasm, he’s played over 80 in the Queensland Cup, which is a strong competition and can help develop Cory (Aston) and Dave (Hewitt).
 
“He can lead a team around the field, has a good kicking game and we will be looking to get him some game time very soon.”
