Burgess scores two as Souths down Roosters
Joe Burgess has grabbed a double in his NRL debut but it wasn’t enough to save the Roosters going down 42-10 to South Sydney.
Burgess wasted little time in his first NRL match since arriving from Wigan, after being a late inlcusion for the injured Daniel Tupou.
The winger scored two tries, the only points the Roosters could muster against an impressive Souths.
Burgess tweeted after the game: “Not the way I wanted my first game to go but was good to make my debut for the roosters! Onwards and upwards.”
Sam Burgess‘ return to the NRL was a solid one with the Rabbitohs beating their bitter rivals by 32 points. The England forward made an eye-catching 188 metres from 17 runs.
It was Greg Inglis and halfback Adam Reynolds who did most of the damage for South Sydney.
But it could be a costly win for Souths with Reynolds suffering a broken jaw and John Sutton hurting his left pectoral muscle.
