Cunningham sure that Saints have turned the corner

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham feels that his team are moving on through their current difficult spell, and have “turned the corner” when it comes to improving.

Saints were beaten by Hull FC 32-24 in East Yorkshire on Friday evening, but Cunningham was pleased with his team’s overall display.

Nevertheless, he now wants them to build on what he saw as a good performance when they face Warrington at Langtree Park in Friday evening.

“This week’s a real big test for us,” he said.

“If we can back up what we did last week, and not worry about those results, and just worry about performances.

“If you get caught up in the world of worrying about results, then you get real anxious, and things start to go away from you.

“You can’t worry about those. But generally, when you get your performance together, the by-product of that is you get a result.

“So we’ll worry about our performance this week, and worry about how hard we’re going to work as a group, and we’ll get there.

“So, if we build on performances every single week, we will get there.

“Whether it’s this week, next week or the week after, we’ll get there.

“The players are demanding that from each other too.

“I feel like we turned a good corner at the weekend, with where we’re heading as a club.”

Despite that emphasis on performance, Cunningham does acknowledge that beating Warrington is important.

“Everybody’s chasing two points very week, and every win’s vital,” he added.

“The top seven or top eight is really close, there’s a matter of points between everything.

“We’ve got to find consistency, that’s all we’ve got to do.”
