Swinton coach Duffy hails Hendo’s London success
Swinton coach John Duffy has praised London coach Andrew Henderson, ahead of his team’s Sunday home game against London Broncos.
He also hopes his ream can replicate the first half display from last week’s 58-12 defeat away to Featherstone Rovers.
“I was chuffed to bits at half-time,” he said.
“We played up the hill in the first half and the lads had dug in. We’d not had much ball and they defended their backsides off so I was really pleased.
“I was looking forward to them getting out there in the second half but unfortunately we didn’t turn up, which is a bit disappointing.
“We’ve put it to bed now and moved on. We’re really targeting these next few games at home to try and get something out of them.
“Hendo’s doing a fantastic job at the Broncos, they seem to have a really good team spirit and they play some good rugby as well.
“They will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season to try and get back up into Super League. It’s a challenge for us but we’re really targeting these next two games.”
Skipper Mike Morrison returns this week but hooker Anthony Nicholson is out with a knee injury.
Henderson was pleased with his team’s 50-28 home win over Workington Town.
He was disappointed with his side’s defensive display, however.
“We made some big improvements with the ball,” he said.
“At Summer Bash we didn’t execute well enough when we were attacking the opposition goal line. I thought we fixed that up against Workington.
“We played some fantastic Rugby League, scored some great tries and played really well with the ball but our goal line defence let us down.
“We didn’t seem to have the same attitude and urgency and desperation that we’ve seen from this team throughout this season.
“Swinton are an attack-minded team, they play with some really good shape and ask a lot of questions of you defensively so we’re going to have to be a lot better than we were last week.
“They have adapted to life in the Championship pretty well and surprised a couple of teams.
“Hats off to John Duffy and his staff, with a limited budget and resources they’ve assembled a competitive squad and will be hoping to build on the back of some recent success.”
