Morrison: We need to kick on

Dewsbury coach Glenn Morrison says his team needs to kick on after they win over Bradford.

The Rams downed the Bulls 16-14 victory last week and take on Oldham tomorrow.

“It was outstanding. The effort’s been there, especially defensively the last few weeks, but we haven’t had a lot of the ball,” Morrison said:

We really dug deep and deserved the win. We spoke about going there and getting the win throughout the week and then kicking on – getting the confidence to keep going and the boys backed up the talk.

“Oldham beat us earlier in the year so we know they are a strong side. I think the scoreline flattered Batley a little bit on the weekend, they came up with some good stuff.

“We need to kick on now and get the win otherwise last week doesn’t mean anything. We’ll be going out with the same mind-set as we had last week.”

Oldham have lost their last five games and the 42-18 defeat at Batley put them second from bottom in the Championship table.

Coach Scott Naylor said: “We’ve got loads of injuries and loads of difficult games to play but that’s just the way it is; you’ve just got to get on with it.

“Batley are very good, they’re big and strong and they obviously know how to play their pitch. They’ve got some good experienced lads with quality halves, big backs and I’d be surprised if they lose more than two games until the end of the season.

“We were OK. We only had 15 fit lads but sometimes you just come up against a really good side on a good day.

Naylor said against Dewsbury his team need to go and “play away like we do at home, put a really good 80 minutes together and see what happens”.

“Dewsbury will be confident after beating Bradford so we’ve just got to go and play well and play Championship rugby from now until the end of the season and pick up some wins,” he said.
