Cunningham: We can do better

Despite a 18-20 victory against Warrington Wolves, Saints coach Keiron Cunningham believes his side still have work to do.

St Helens their sixth win in a row with the result over Warrington.

“We started the game without the ball and when we got the ball we didn’t seem like we wanted to keep hold of the ball,” Cunningham told Sky Sports.

“When we got a little bit of composure about what we did and completed our sets well and kicked well we got the ball in the right areas and scored tries.

“We know we can do that but it was just one of those stop-start games. I think the long break didn’t help us but that’s what people pay their money for the classics.

“It went down to a great defensive effort on the line at the final whistle.

One of the big areas which Cunningham identified there was room for improvement was the kicking game.

“We didn’t kick the ball great in the first half and a lot of points I thought we took the wrong options,” he admitted.

“We took it a tackle too late or a pass too far and against a good side like Warrington they really hurt you if you don’t put them in the right positions of the field.”
