Lilley aims to emulate McGuire
Leeds pivot Jordan wants to add more elements to his game as his career develops, in particular some of Danny McGuire‘s key traits.
Veteran stand-off McGuire has an ability to score tries that comes from his superb support play, an asset which Lilley feels he personally does not yet possess.
“Back in my amateur days at Stanningley I was so used to doing everything, bossing the team about, but I don’t have to do all that in this team,” he told Rugbyleague.com.
“I’ve got more of a free role to stand back and pick up.
“Danny McGuire is a big support player and has scored loads of tries through that and that’s something I need to work on.
“That’s not been in my game since I was little. I’m just developing week in, week out, in all aspects.”
Lilley is very pleased at how his Rhinos career is progressing, however.
“I do pinch myself every time I go out. To play in a World Club Challenge at 19 is something that I’ll take to the grave with me,” he said.
“Things I’ve achieved already this year are massive for me. At the start of the year, I’d have never imagined that in a million years.
“It’s happened through injury – unfortunately for Maggs [McGuire].
“But fortunately for me I got my chance – and hopefully I’ve given a good account of myself to go forward in the future.”
