Sharp: Batley win was highlight of season
Featherstone coach Jon Sharp believes his team put in their best performance of 2016 so far during their 34-6 win against Batley Bulldogs.
“We executed the game plan really well and going in at 10-0 gave us a great psychological advantage going into the second half down the hill, having only used three changes,” Sharp said.
“We’ve got the best defence in the competition and showed it.
“We’ve done ever so well this year to get ourselves into a position where we have a chance of making the play-offs.
“We’ve had a raft of injuries, our pivots have only played six/eight games together all year and now they’re starting to gel.
“We now need to keep the focus and mentality and maintain the momentum.
“We’ll be up against a really well coached team with some good players at Halifax next Sunday who embarrassed us last time out but we’re going to go there with confidence and give it our best shot.”
Halifax come into this week’s match off the back of a 58-18 thrashing against Leigh Centurions but Coach Richard Marshall thinks his team are more than capable of bouncing back against Featherstone.
“We’re coming off a pretty poor performance but we’re confident.
“You can have a blip from time to time and we had one last week, but we’ve spoken about what we need to do, there’s no big issues, we just need to work hard again and get that belief.
“Featherstone are a good team and they’re playing well at the moment, they put in probably their best performance of the year last week.
“They’ll be smarting after what we did to them at Summer Bash so there’s a lot to at stake for both clubs. We haven’t played at The Shay for six weeks so we’re looking forward to playing at home.”
