Wane: Leeds outplayed us

Wigan coach Shaun Wane believes his team could have given a lot more against Leeds last, citing poor game management from his team.

“We didn’t play to our best. I thought the effort was there but I thought our game management could have been better,” Wane told Sky Sports.

“Leeds are a quality club. You look at them and they’re in the middle 8s and to shore up today and perform the way they did just shows what a great club this is.

“We’d never take a club like this for granted, never in a million years. My boys turned up today, just a bit dumb at times.

“A few decisions went against us and our game management in the final third was ordinary.

“The end of our sets wasn’t as good as Leeds and I thought they beat us on the floor so when you do that against a club like Leeds with the individuals they have got, you are going to lose the game.

“We stuck in there and made it a two point game. We could have sneaked it, I’m not sure it would have been the right result.”

Wane stressed next week was always going to be a monumental game, when they face bitter rivals St Helens, whatever happened at Headingley.

“It doesn’t change. Next week against St Helens is a massive, massive game for us. A huge game for Wigan so what happens tonight doesn’t alter that game next week.”
