Brennan linked with Huddersfield job

Penrith assistant coach Garth Brennan has emerged as a strong candidate for the Huddersfield coaching position.

The Giants are on the hunt for a new head coach following the sacking of Paul Anderson.

Sky Sports has linked Brennan, along with Nathan Brown, Brett Hodgson and David Furner for the role.

Love Rugby league understands the Panthers assistant is a front-runner for the job. Other candidates include South Sydney assistant Kurt Wrigley.

Brennan was appointed as an assistant to Anthony Griffin at Penrith at the end of 2015 after success with the club’s NSW Cup team. He was a candidate for the vacant Newcastle Knights NRL role last year, which eventually went to former St Helens and Huddersfield coach Brown.

Brennan won an Under-20s title with the Panthers and has spent the past four years at the foot of the mountains.

Before that he spent time coaching the Knights’ junior sides and also won local Newcastle premierships playing at Western Suburbs and Waratah.

A former police prosecutor, Brennan also played lower-grades with the Knights.
