Richard Agar waiting on Luke Gale injury news after Leeds thump Leigh

Leeds head coach Richard Agar will wait to discover the seriousness of a knee injury to Luke Gale sustained during Friday’s 46-10 win at bottom side Leigh.

The England scrum-half was hurt in a tackle inside the opening quarter and was forced off with his left knee later placed in a brace.

Rhinos centre Konrad Hurrell also picked up a foot injury and was in a boot after the game, giving Agar more problems in a season when his side have been badly affected by injuries.

Agar said: “We’re guessing it’s a medial injury with Luke. He’s got a brace on and Konrad has got a boot on his foot, so I’m not quite sure what else this season can throw at us.

“Fingers crossed, we’re hoping with Luke if it is medial it is low grade, but until we get the full picture it’s hard to say.”

First-half tries from Zane Tetevano and Tom Briscoe put Leeds 10-6 ahead at the interval.

Briscoe, Cameron Smith, Rob Lui, Brad Dwyer, Ash Handley and Kruise Leeming added further scores in the second half to boost Leeds’ hopes of a top-six finish.

Agar said: “I thought in the first half we were probably guilty on a couple of points of our execution, but I thought we showed a lot of intent.

“We had a chance to close their try down, but I thought with the ball – apart from the final bits – we were doing a really good job on them.

“In the second half we did take our opportunities and came up with some really good tries.”

Agar was pleased with Leeming’s contribution after he moved into the halves and also hailed 17-year-old Morgan Gannon, who played the full 80 minutes for the first time in Super League.

Assessing his side’s play-off prospects, Agar added: “Our main concern at the minute is that if we lose Luke and we lose Konrad, we’re really down on numbers.

“The boys are fighting hard as you’ve seen tonight, but that could present us with our biggest challenge. It won’t be down to a lack of effort or desire, I can assure you that.”

Matty Gee scored twice for Leigh but interim head coach Kurt Haggerty said: “We lost Matty Russell, we lost Keanan Brand and we lost Matty Foster, so we lost three players in one game, which is pretty much unheard of.

“Once we had lost those boys, we had to reshuffle because we had already lost Adam Sidlow and Liam Hood in the week.

“We were down to one substitute in the last 30 minutes of the game.

“If we had kept more bodies on the field then I think it would have been a different chat and a different scoreline.”
