Sam Kasiano agrees to stay at Catalans

Catalans Dragons prop Sam Kasiano has ended speculation over his future by signing a new 12-month contract with the French Super League club.

The 31-year-old former New Zealand international’s initial three-year deal was due to run out this year and, after an impressive season for the table-toppers, was thought to have attracted offers from Super League rivals.

Dragons head coach Steve McNamara said: “Sam’s impact and influence on the team in 2021 has been immense.

“His ability to change the momentum of the game and the havoc he can create in attack and defence is a real asset for the team.

“We are extremely happy he has committed himself to the Dragons for at least another season.”

The Auckland-born former Canterbury Bulldogs front rower, who played for the Kiwis in the 2013 World Cup final, has made 55 appearances for Catalans since joining them from Melbourne ahead of the 2019 season.

“Me and my family are very happy to be a part of the Dragons family for another year,” he said. “Now I can focus on the rest of this season.”
