Championship clash between London Broncos and Newcastle postponed

Newcastle’s Championship fixture with London Broncos on Sunday, August 22, at Kingston Park has been postponed due to Covid-19.

Thunder meet the threshold for postponement of at least seven senior players ruled out either as a result of positive Covid-19 tests or as close contacts who are not fully vaccinated.

The two clubs will now liaise with the RFL in an attempt to find a date to rearrange the fixture, although part-time teams cannot be required to play in midweek.

The Championship table will be determined on win points percentage, with Toulouse leading the way remaining undefeated so far in 2021.

Newcastle currently sit 11th in the table with a win percentage of 34.38%, while the Broncos sit sixth with a record of nine wins, one draw and six losses and a percentage of 53.13%.

Thunder’s next Championship game will be a trip to the Tetley’s Stadium to face Dewsbury Rams, while London host Sheffield Eagles at the Trailfinders Sports Club.

Last weekend, Newcastle fell to a 12-36 defeat at home to Bradford Bulls, and have won five games so far in 2021, coming against Dewsbury, York, Oldham, Swinton and Sheffield.

Just four games remain for Eamon O’Carroll’s side, excluding the possibility of a rearranged London clash, against Dewsbury, York, Oldham and Toulouse.

Featherstone currently sit second in the Championship table, with 15 wins out of 16, their only defeat coming at home to Toulouse.

Halifax currently sit third with 12 wins so far this season, Bradford fourth and Batley fifth.

Swinton Lions, who recently departed ways with head coach Stuart Littler, sit at the bottom of the table with just one win, while Oldham sit one place above in 13th spot.

Dewsbury currently sit 12th, Widnes 10th, York 9th, Sheffield 8th and Whitehaven sit in seventh spot in the Championship table.
