Record audience figures announced for Super League
Super League has revealed record viewing figures as the play-offs prepare to get underway later today.
Catalans Dragons achieved a 21% increase in viewing figures over the course of the 2021 season. Their dramatic golden point victory over Hull KR in round one drawing over half a million viewers.
The Dragons went on to win 19 of their 23 league matches during the regular season, becoming the first non-UK club to clinch the League Leaders’ Shield.
Among the other standout figures released by Super League, more games than ever before broke the 200,000-viewer mark, with 10 different clubs participating in at least one of these matches.
Strong signs for play-offs
Just six teams remain in the hunt for Grand Final glory this season; Leeds Rhinos travel to face Wigan Warriors this evening, before Warrington Wolves host injury-hit Hull KR at the Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow night.
Catalans and St Helens, first and second respectively at the end of the regular season, lie in wait for this week’s winners. From there, just 80 minutes separate them and a trip to Old Trafford for the Grand Final on Saturday October 9.
All Super League and Championship play-off matches will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Speaking about the competition’s upturn in viewing figures, Rhodri Jones, chief commercial officer, said: “Our fans have continued to enjoy Sky Sports’ excellent coverage once again in 2021.
“Our numbers show the popularity of the competition, and it sets everything up nicely for the final three weeks of the season.
“Our players have once again delivered for Betfred Super League with many dramatic moments during the regular season.
“As we enter the play-offs, I’m sure there’ll be plenty more twists and turns to come for the viewer to enjoy, before the biggest night of the year at Old Trafford for the Betfred Super League Grand Final.”
