I’m back! For the seventh time this season, you have a Knock On with your very own Jonny Bell. I will run through the latest from the last week of rugby league for your pleasure, so give it a browse.

Farce of the Week – Castleford shirt farce

In Sunday’s 40-18 thumping at the hands of Huddersfield, Castleford were forced to play in the colours of Yorkshire rivals Halifax. In perhaps the strangest super league news of the last few weeks, it wasn’t until the warm up that someone realised that the kits were clashing.

The kick-off was delayed until 6pm at The Shay, with Huddersfield playing there whilst their pitch is relayed, and it was a Halifax employee that was to the rescue. Happily, handy and helpful Hilda Hardy helped Cas by downing her garden tools to respond to the SOS calls of the Tigers, much to the astonishment of the crowd.

Team of the Week – Catalans in dreamland

Against all odds, Catalan Dragons upset the apple cart by completing a famous double Wigan in France.

The Warriors, who hadn’t been defeated since they last got turned over by Catalans at home back in April, succumbed to a 20-12 defeat that blew the Super League title race wide open.

The Dragons had headed to Montpellier for the game, and this decision paid off, with the French team rising to fifth in the league and top of the chasing pack. This may be the biggest super league news of the week, and the team that finished bottom of the pile last time out are heading towards a shout out of team of the year.

Story of the Week – Hull double signing

The biggest rugby league news in general, has been the double signing of Wade McKinnon and Jamie Ellis by Hull FC for next season. McKinnon, a full-back from West Tigers, will make the switch from NRL to Super League for the start of next season. He has struggled from injury recently, but has given a much needed boost to FC.

Ellis, who graduated from St Helens, has been one of the stand-out performers in the Championship this season and will leave table toppers Leigh for the KC Stadium. The scrum-half is young and ambitious, and Richard Agar has already noted his potential to kick on his game at FC.

Super League Franchise name of the Week – Cancun Cockatoos

Topical for me, though I’m not trying to rub it in, but next week I’ll be on the beach in Cancun. Was thinking that maybe I could mix pleasure with business and give our brilliant game an exotic touch.
