Samy Kibula eyes promotion after making Championship switch

Bradford have signed prop Samy Kibula from Warrington on a one-year deal for the 2022 Championship season. 

The 22-year-old front-rower came through the ranks at Wigan, where he made one first team appearance. He joined Warrington ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Kibula played two first team games for the Wolves. He spent time on loan at Championship side Newcastle Thunder earlier this year before injury cut his season short.

The Congo-born forward wants to help Bradford achieve promotion back to Super League.

He said: “I’m excited to be joining Bradford. It is a massive club and I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the club get to its goals.

“It is a massive club with a massive fanbase. When I met the coaches (John Kear and Mark Dunning), they have massive ambitions of getting back to Super League and I wanted to be at Bradford to help them do that.

“It has been my toughest year yet having been out for a while. I just want to get back playing rugby and having experience in the Championship will be massive for me.

“I am good mates with Dec (Patton) who was announced last week. Although we didn’t play much together, he has got great skill and we can help push each other throughout the year.

“I have been at Wigan and Warrington and trained and played with some great pros. Now I’m joining Bradford I have more great role models to learn from to help improve my game.”

Bradford coach John Kear said: “He is a big fella, he really is. He suffered a season ending injury this year but he was highly thought of at Wigan and Warrington, so he has come through some good systems.

“He certainly adds size and we really will look to maximise his size and ability in an impactful way.”
