Super League clubs on alert as Kane Evans NRL exit confirmed

New Zealand Warriors have released prop Kane Evans so he can pursue an opportunity in Super League.

The 29-year-old was on contract with the NRL side for next season, but both parties have mutually agreed to part ways.

Hull, Wakefield and Salford have all been linked with Evans, who has won 13 caps for Fiji and appeared in two World Cups.

Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan said: “By muual agreement we’ve parted ways amicably to enable Kane to pursue opportunities in the Super League.

“We thank Kane for the contribution he has made this season and wish him all the best for his future in England.”

Kane Evans has made 131 appearances in the NRL for Sydney Roosters, Parramatta Eels and the Warriors.

Elsewhere in the NRL

Wests Tigers have announced the signing of experienced utility Tyrone Peachey on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old has made 178 NRL appearances for Cronulla Sharks, Penrith Panthers and Gold Coast Titans. He has played three games for New South Wales in the Origin arena and has also represented the Indigenous All Stars six times.

Peachey said: “I’m really excited to join the club and get stuck into work with Wests Tigers.

“I’ve been really impressed by Madge (Michael Maguire) and the way he approaches the game and I’m looking forward to working under him. I know that I perform my best when I’ve got a strong coach who can keep me accountable, and I’ve really enjoyed speaking with him lately.

“I’m pretty keen to work too with a lot of the young talent at the club.

“I’ve been through the process of seeing young players step up into the NRL and what needs to change for the club to be successful. It’s a good chance for me to not only help on the field but also give the young players some direction and help this team play finals footy.

“Wests Tigers is a big club and a pretty special club with its history — it deserves to be competing in the big games every year and I can’t wait to help us do that.”
