York coach James Ford delighted to sign London Broncos hooker

York City Knights have signed hooker Sam Davis from London Broncos on a one-year contract for the 2022 Championship season.

The 22-year-old, who is the brother of Warrington forward Matt, will make the move up north next season as he becomes the 11th player to have committed to the Knights for 2022.

A Midlands native, Davis was picked up by London’s academy at the age of 17 and made his first team debut in 2018. He played eight games for the Broncos this season.

York City Knights coach James Ford said: “I’m delighted to sign Sam. He is a tenacious hooker who will provide energy and effort in abundance.

“He’ll add a huge amount of competitive spirit to our middle unit.”

Davis said: “I’m buzzing. It’s a club that I’ve had my eye on for a few years with Fordy as the coach and with the facilities they’ve got. The general direction the club is looking to head is something I want to be a part of and, hopefully, I can be part of the reason we move forward.

“Having spoken to Fordy, he’s really impressed with the work Jamie Langley and Danny Ward have done with me down in London and he’s excited to coach me, make me progress and give me a few more skills and assets.

“It’s a good opportunity for me and one I’m really looking forward to.”

York snap up former Hull half-back Liam Harris

York have signed half-back Liam Harris from Championship rivals Halifax for the 2022 season.

The 24-year-old returns to the Knights after previously playing for the club in two loan spells from Hull KR and Hull FC, making 36 appearances. Harris joins Jamie Ellis in York’s half-back options for next season.

York coach James Ford said: “Liam is a player I really enjoyed working with previously and I’m confident I’ll enjoy it again. He is an intelligent young man who has yet to play to his full potential.

“He’ll bring a good level of game management, a strong kicking game, and a threat with his pace and distribution skills.”
