Arthur Mourgue signs new Catalans deal

Catalans have announced that rising star Arthur Mourgue has signed a new two-year deal with the club. 

The extended contract will see the France international in Perpignan until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Mourgue, 22, made his Super League debut in 2018. He became a regular in Steve McNamara’s team in 2021, making 23 appearances and scoring six tries.

“I’m really happy to sign a new contract with the Dragons and to stay at Perpignan for the next two seasons,” he said.

“We had a superb season in 2021 and I am really looking forward to starting the next one.”

Head coach Steve McNamara added: “Arthur Mourgue had a real break out season in 2021 and we had no hesitation in offering him an improved deal.

“We are extremely happy with his progression to date and look forward to helping him continually improve his whole game.”

Recruitment for 2022

The french side, who reached the Grand Final in 2021 for the first time in their history, are yet to make any additions to their squad for 2022.

However, the Dragons are reportedly closing in on a trio of signings from the NRL, including Dylan Napa.

Half-back Mitchell Pearce has been lined up to replace James Maloney; but current club Newcastle Knights want to secure a replacement before releasing him from the final year of his contract.

Catalans’ third possible signing from the NRL is Sydney Roosters prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho.

However, they may have to wait until 2023 to welcome Taukeiaho; with the Roosters determined to keep him for another year.
