Kevin Sinfield passes £2m in fundraising
Former Leeds halfback Kevin Sinfield has now raised over £2 million for charity after his Extra Mile challenge.
Sinfield took on the challenge to run the 101 mile distance between his current club, rugby union side Leicester Tigers, and Leeds Rhinos, the club where he made his name.
He did this in just 24 hours, splitting the run up into seven-kilometre runs.
The 41-year-old was raising money for Leeds Hospitals Charity and the Motor Neurone Disease Association. It is all to support his former teammate Rob Burrow.
Leeds Hospital are also building the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. A new building specifically for MND patients to get the specialist treatment they need.
Sinfield initially set a target of £100,000 for the run, but has well surpassed that. He previously raised over £2.7 million when he ran seven marathons in seven days last year. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours for his efforts.
This means, at the time of writing, he has raised just under £5 million for Motor Neurone Disease.
Christmas single announced for Burrow
The news comes after Leeds announced a Christmas single was being released, with the proceeds going towards the Rob Burrow Centre at Leeds Hospital.
They are aiming to reach number seven in the charts, the number synonymous with Burrow and his playing career.
Sinfield said about the song: “I know that Christmas is a very special time for every family especially for Rob and his young children.
“I am sure everyone will enjoy the single and play their part in helping it to rise up the charts and raise the fundraising total at the same time.”
The song is called “Welcome” and is available from the usual download services after being released earlier today.
