Boxing Day rugby league: Batley-Dewsbury postponed due to COVID

The Boxing Day friendly between Batley and Dewsbury has been called off due to COVID.

Both clubs have reported a number of COVID cases, preventing the game at Mount Pleasant going ahead.

Tickets bought online will be refunded and paper tickets can be returned for a refund in the New Year.

There are still two matches taking place on Boxing Day, including Leeds against Wakefield at Headingley.

The Rhinos have announced a strong squad for the game, which will be played in front of a limited 9,999-capacity crowd.

The game will also be live streamed via the Our League app.

New signings Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer will line-up in the halves for the first time since they were team-mates at Canberra in 2018.

Fellow high-profile recruit James Bentley is also named in the starting line-up.

Captain Matt Prior and new NRL arrival David Fusitu’a will not feature.

Youngster Jack Sinfield could make his first Rhinos first team appearance, and follow in his father Kevin’s footsteps, after being named in Richard Agar’s extended squad.

Agar will confirm a 21-man squad on the day of the game.

It kicks-off at 11.30am.

Also in action on Boxing Day are Championship rivals Bradford and Halifax, who meet at Odsal.
