Wigan winger Liam Marshall back ‘fully fit’ after frustrating time with injury
Wigan winger Liam Marshall is raring to go ahead of the new Super League season after a frustrating couple of years with injury.
The 25-year-old hasn’t played as much as he would have liked in the last two seasons. Injury has limited him to just 26 appearances across the two years.
But after undergoing a procedure on his knee during the off-season, Marshall is feeling back to his best and is ready to fire on all cylinders in 2022.
Marshall told Love Rugby League: “I got injured just after the lockdown in the 2020 season with my knee.
“I missed the rest of that season when we got to the Grand Final and I missed a large chunk of last season. I came back, my knee was alright but it wasn’t fully there.
“I’ve had a little procedure this off-season just gone and I feel great. I’m glad I had it done. I missed a couple of weeks at the start of pre-season; but since then I’ve been back in with the lads and I’ve really enjoyed it.
“I’m back fully fit and I’m training well so hopefully I can play some good rugby when the games come around.
“We’ve set some goals as players this pre-season and one of mine was just to stay fit, be available and be on the field just as much as I can be. Hopefully we can have some team success and I can play my part in that.”

Liam Marshall on working under Wigan head coach Matt Peet
Marshall came through the academy at his hometown club. He spent a season on loan in the Championship with Swinton in 2016, where he scored 20 tries in 22 games.
The former Wigan St Patricks junior made his first team debut for Wigan in 2017. He has gone on to score 70 tries in 96 appearances for the Warriors.
Marshall played under now head coach Matt Peet in the academy, and is glad to see him get his shot at being a head coach.
“I’ve been coached by Matty since I was around 17 in our academy,” Marshall said.
“He has been as honest with me all the way through as he has been with all the other lads. It has been good. He has implemented some things he wanted to do and put his own spin on it. It has been exciting so far.
“It will be special for Matty as well having coached lads all the way through and now in the first team as well. You always have that relationship with him that’s been built over a few years. I know what he expects from his players and vice versa.
“It’s been good and deserves his chance as head coach. Everyone is excited for what the season holds.”
