Halifax announce dual registration partners

Championship side Halifax have announced they will having a dual registration partnership with Super League club Huddersfield.

As a result of the partnership, the Panthers can take players from the Giants to help cover injuries or other unavailability. It will also give an opportunity for game time for Huddersfield players.

The pair return to the agreement they had in 2020. There was no dual-registration in 2021, with two-week loans put in instead.

A number of dual-registration partnerships have been announced already. St Helens have agreed with Leigh, Wigan have partnered up with Newcastle and Leeds have agreed with Featherstone. There have also been partnerships agreed to help reserve teams. This includes Hull’s deal with Bradford.

Speaking to the club website, Panthers Head Coach Simon Grix said: “Personally, I view it as both insurance and opportunity. Where the dual-registration can help if there are issues with injury, illness or suspensions.

“I’ve had a good chat with Watto (Ian Watson). We have both laid out what we need from the agreement if and when we use it.

“He is a straight up kind of bloke so I’m sure there will be no dramas with things. Ian has to look after Huddersfield first. But having coached in the Championship he understands the quality of competition.

Natural geographical fit to partner with Halifax

Huddersfield Managing Director Richard Thewlis added: “There is a natural geographical fit with Halifax and the partnership in the past has worked well for both clubs.

“If we are able, and players are needed, we would like nothing better than to strengthen the Halifax first team if they require help.

“They have a very strong side already with clear top four ambitions which again will offer our players opportunities from time to time.”
