Leeds forward Alex Mellor cleared of serious injury after hospital trip

Leeds forward Alex Mellor has been cleared of serious injury after pre-cautionary treatment at hospital following an injury in their defeat to Catalans.

The 27-year-old left the field on stretcher just three minutes into last night’s 10-4 defeat to Catalans Dragons at Headingley on Thursday night.

The match was delayed for a lengthy period whilst the club’s medical staff gave him immediate treatment on the field.

Mellor was stretchered from the field and then taken to hospital as a pre-caution.

But it is good news for the former Huddersfield man. He has been allowed to return home after being assessed and has been cleared of serious injury.

A Leeds statement read: “We would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with the club and on social media sending their well wishes to Alex.”

Leeds were already without six first team regulars through injury and suspension. Mellor’s is the latest blow to Richard Agar’s side, who have lost their first three games of the season.

Speaking after last night’s game, Agar said: “We bombed a load of chances, especially when they were down to 12 men.

“After last week I thought the effort was up there. Our kick chase was good but our ability to execute was so far off the mark.

“We sat back too much, at times with the ball it was really painful to watch. It’s something we’ve got to work hard on, we’ve got to work on our combinations.

“We were lacking a bit of firepower but we should have some personnel back next week which will help us.”
