Widnes release statement on crowd behaviour following Barrow defeat

Widnes have released a statement condemning the behaviour of a fan who entered the pitch during Monday’s defeat to Barrow.

The Vikings lost the match between two of the league’s previously unbeaten sides 34-24 at the DCBL Stadium.

The club said they had received both photographic and video evidence of the incident, and would be working with the authorities to take action.

The statement, which appears on the club website, said; “Following another individual entering the pitch during last night’s home game against Barrow, we are now working with the relevant authorities to clarify the appropriate sanctions for any individuals involved in pitch invasions.

“We have seen fantastic support from Widnes fans so far this season. They have been brilliant both home and away.

“Unfortunately, the actions of a small minority at the Challenge Cup game against Leigh Centurions last week and at yesterday’s home game with Barrow could result in serious sanctions for the club.

“We have been given photographic and video evidence of those involved in both incidents and will now work with the authorities to take action against those involved.”

Individuals also enter pitch in Widnes’ defeat at Leigh

Widnes Vikings have released a statement following a crowd incident in their defeat to Leigh in the Challenge Cup.

Simon Finnigan’s side fell to a 38-4 defeat at the Leigh Sports Village in the fourth round of the cup. 

Caleb Aekins scored a hat-trick, while Luis Roberts made his debut in replace of the injured Nene Macdonald.

Brad Holroyd pulled one back for his side on the half hour mark. However, a strong start from the Centurions saw them claim the victory.

Following the final hooter, a group of Widnes fans entered the field.
