Adrian Lam believes Bradford win can be stepping stone for Leigh

Leigh Head Coach Adrian Lam believes his side’s 20-16 victory over Bradford in the Challenge Cup can be a stepping stone for them.

The Centurions had trailed for much of the match. They had trailed by eight points in two different periods of the match. They trailed eight nil in the first half, and then 16-8 in the second half.

Lam was pleased his side managed to find a way to get the result.

He told Premier Sports after the game: elation and but a bit of relief there too. It’s a tough place to come here, on a smaller pitch and and play a different style of rugby that we’ve that we’ve played so far. So I was just really proud that we hung in there.

“They’ll (Bradford) be gutted in the dressing room at the moment because they probably deserved to win or played well enough to win.

“That’s why I’m extra pleased about our team. Because you can’t coach or train that on a training pitch. It’s got to come from within the group.

“We were down by eight points to different parts of the game down to down to 12 men, penalties against and we just found a way to win and you know that that is a stepping stone for us, I believe in this journey for this year. So really pleased.”

Lam to take Leigh to Hull KR in next round

Leigh’s reward for that win over Bradford was a trip to Hull KR in the sixth round. That win also ensures their place in the 1895 Cup as well.

Other highlights in that draw see defending champions St Helens travel to Cumbria and take on Whitehaven. Championship sides Featherstone, Sheffield and Barrow will also play Super League opposition. They will play Catalans, Hull and Huddersfield respectively.
