Melbourne Storm: Cameron Munster shrugs off rumours after starring in Sharks win
Melbourne Storm ace Cameron Munster has played down talk over his future and says he will let his footy do the talking after putting on a masterclass against the Cronulla Sharks.
The Storm thumped the Sharks 34-18 and Munster was at his best. Melbourne ran in five tries with Munster scoring one and having a hand in three others. The performance may have nudged his valuation up a little bit more.
Munster has been the talk of the town as the Dolphins are keen to lure him away. The Queensland State of Origin ace is under contract until the end of 2023. But that is not stopping the rumours.
Melbourne Storm keen to keep Munster
The Dolphins are tracking Munster and as soon as 1st November arrives they can make him an offer for 2024. There has even been talk of then trying to negotiate an early release for 2023.
Melbourne have said that will not be happening and he will see out his deal at the very least. Despite all the speculation it is not having an impact on the player.
He is at the top of his game and when quizzed about his future, he shrugged it off.
“For sure, obviously there is a lot of speculation about what I am doing in the next couple of years,” Munster told reporters after the game.
“I have just got to keep playing good footy and worry about myself and everything I will just take from there. I’m just trying to play good footy and let my footy do the talking.”
Munster in top form
Munster puts his form down to giving up alcohol. Following controversy at the end of last season he has not had a drink in seven months. He is leaner and meaner and Bellamy sang his praises after the win.
“I have said it a few times, but probably the best thing that has ever happened to him was last year,” Bellamy said. “When he did what he did to help himself be better and it has worked a treat to be quite honest.
“His consistency this year has been at a real high level and a consistent level. I think he will just get better and better.”
Meanwhile Jahrome Hughes says everyone is keen for Munster to sign a new deal. However they will not put too much pressure on him.
“I’m in his ear a lot but he has got a young family and he has got to do what is best for himself. But I want him here,” Hughes said.
