Ben Jones-Bishop keeping one eye on World Cup with Jamaica
Sheffield Eagles winger Ben Jones-Bishop says he has one eye on the World Cup at the end of the season with Jamaica.
The 33-year-old has won four caps for Jamaica so far. He featured against England Knights last season, who he appeared for twice as a youngster.
He was also on the wing in their 30-30 draw with Scotland in Featherstone last October.
Jamaica will become the first Caribbean nation to feature in the World Cup in 2022.
Jones-Bishop, who has made more than 200 career appearances, says the Jamaican link attracted him to new club Sheffield ahead of 2022 and he is hoping for a successful World Cup.
Ben Jones-Bishop on World Cup and Jamaica
“Hopefully it can be just as good as it was expected to be last year,” he told Love Rugby League.
“It’s a long season before then, but it’s definitely what I’m looking at.
“Joel and Isaac Farrell and Kadeem Williams all play for Jamaica. There’s a few of us at Sheffield.
“That was part of coming to Sheffield as well, obviously knowing some of the boys there. It helped settling in.
“Luckily last year we still got two games in against England Knights and Scotland. It’s nice to get together and keep that momentum building.
“I think we will meet up during that international week this year. I’m pretty sure they will be a get-together.
“It’s a bit of a milestone that week, because the focus is on internationals that week and then the next step is the end of season World Cup. I think from that moment onwards, things will pick up.
“It’s a long season, but obviously massively rewarding if you manage to play in the World Cup at the end of it.”
