Jack Hughes set for lengthy spell on sidelines through injury

Warrington captain Jack Hughes is set to be sidelined for up to four months due to injury. 

Head coach Daryl Powell confirmed that the back-rower dislocated his shoulder during their Easter Monday clash with Hull at the MKM Stadium.

Hughes, 30, is set to have an operation next week on the injury.

“It’s disappointing. He’s dislocated his shoulder and will be out for around four months,” Powell said during his pre-match press conference.

“I’m really disappointed for him. It’s tough for everybody. You want your better players on the field and you want your captain to be available. We’re hugely disappointed for him and the club.

“It (his shoulder) was hard to get back in. They’re a really awkward feeling and that would have been really uncomfortable for him.

“Hopefully he could get back in the back end of the season.”

Stefan Ratchford and Gareth Widdop miss out

Powell also confirmed blows to Stefan Ratchford and Gareth Widdop.

The Warrington pair were left out of their squad for their Huddersfield clash and are set for a few weeks on the sideline.

“They both picked up injuries and were fortunate to get themselves through the game,” Powell said.

“They are both tough players. I got word in the first half that Stef might need to come off but he managed to get himself through. Gaz (Widdop) was limping a fair bit.

“Scans have shown injuries that will keep them out for a couple of weeks. Easter puts real pressure on squads and obviously individuals.

“I’m not saying that’s the reason why it happened, but that’s potentially an increased factor by playing Thursday and then Monday.”

“It’s a glute for Widdop and a quad injury for Ratchford.”
