Casualty Ward: Drinkwater injured, Salford blows & Wigan prop to return

Foot injury for Josh Drinkwater

Catalans Dragons look to have suffered a huge blow to star half-back Josh Drinkwater. The 29-year-old left the field in their 14-8 defeat at Hull last night. He left the MKM Stadium with his foot in a big foot and said he “felt a crack” in his foot as he went down. The extent of his injury has yet to be revealed, but it doesn’t look good.

Salford dealt double injury blow

In Sunday’s other game, Salford suffered a couple of injuries to captain Elijah Taylor and full-back Ryan Brierley.

New Zealand international Taylor failed a HIA. He will be ruled out of action for the next 11 days due to the return-to-play protocol.

And Scotland international Brierley suffered a rib injury in the latter stages of the match, meaning he will miss Friday’s game against Saints whilst the club wait to find out the extent.

Speaking after the game, Salford coach Paul Rowley told Love Rugby League: “We’ll definitely have none back for players.

“Elijah Taylor will be 11 days. Ryan Brierley is no good, they are the ones that are obvious at the minute.

“I think he got a rib injury. I’m not sure of the extent but looking at him in the dressing room, a betting man would say he’s not playing on Friday.

“(Marc) Sneyd won’t play Friday but he’ll be good after that.”

Taylor and Brierley have joined Marc Sneyd, Dan Sarginson, Joe Burgess, Shane Wright, Harvey Livett, Tim Lafai and James Greenwood on the sidelines.

George Williams injury update

Warrington coach Daryl Powell confirmed George Williams did not take part in their 32-10 win over Huddersfield because of a quad injury.

Powell also confirmed he was not sure if Williams would be able to take on his old club Wigan in Warrington’s next game.

He confirmed the England international would need a scan on the injury, and then they would be able to tell how long he would be out for.

Powell said: “I’m not sure. He’s had a scan, and we’ll see how he goes through the week. He couldn’t run well yesterday, so we will see.”

Meanwhile, Oliver Holmes will be fit to play Wigan on Friday after overcoming a leg injury.

Wigan prop to return

Wigan forward Brad Singleton will be fit to face rivals Warrington on Friday night. The Ireland international was rested for Sunday’s win over Salford due to having a few bumps and bruises from the Easter period, but he will be back this week.

Toulouse wait on star man

Toulouse Olympique suffered a blow on Friday night when they lost goal-kicker Chris Hankinson in the warm-up.

Meanwhile, Leeds utility Liam Sutcliffe sustained a leg injury. It is unclear whether he will be fit to face Hull KR on Friday.
