Kallum Watkins signs new deal with boyhood club Salford

Salford centre Kallum Watkins has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Red Devils until at least the end of 2023.

The 31-year-old joined hometown club Salford towards the end of the 2020 season after initially joining Toronto Wolfpack.

Watkins recently returned to action after spending 10 months on the sidelines through injury.

Watkins said “I’m really pleased to extend my stay here at Salford.

“The club are heading in a great direction with the playing group and coaching staff we’ve got here. I’m excited to continue working with everyone.

“It’s been a tough last 12 months for me personally, but everyone at the club have supported me and pushed me to get back on the pitch and I’m really happy to be back playing.

“I want to focus on keeping fit now and doing my best to represent Salford both on and off the field.”

Salford coach Paul Rowley said: “It’s fantastic news that Kallum has committed his future to the club.

“He’s been fantastic on and off the field. He’s exactly the calibre of player and more importantly person that we want in our organisation.

“He’s an international athlete and a role model to all aspiring future Red Devils. I know I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in saying it’s a pleasure and privilege to have Kallum in our group.”

Watkins’ new deal is the second extension that Salford have announced this week.

The Red Devils have exercised an option in Deon Cross’ contract that will see him stay with the club until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Cross joined Salford ahead of this season from Championship side Widnes. He is currently enjoying his first taste of Super League action.
