Former NRL forward Keegan Hipgrave starts life in new career following early retirement

Former NRL forward Keegan Hipgrave has started his new career following his retirement from the sport.

Following medical advice, Hipgrave retired from the NRL at the age of just 24. He made his debut with Gold Coast Titans in 2017 before joining Parramatta Eels prior to the start of the 2021 campaign. The Australian-born second-rower made nine appearances in 2021.

He made 49 appearances in his career, scoring three tries.

Now, he has joined the What Ability team, a support service in Australia, as a full time accounts manager.

Forced into early retirement due to medical advice is something Hipgrave and What Ability’s founder Steve Dresler have in common. Having gone to school together at Palm Beach Currumbin State High School, the two have since bonded over their individual exits from the game and how that affected them mentally. 

Instead of wallowing, both have channelled their energy into giving back to those less fortunate than themselves.  

Hipgrave is passionate about helping others and putting a smile on the faces of those that need it most. He has proudly been a support worker with What Ability since October 2021. He will now step up to take on more responsibilities within the organisation.
