Catalans Dragons sign goal-kicking prop Siosiua Taukeiaho
Catalans Dragons have signed goal-kicking Tonga international Siosiua Taukeiaho from 2023 on a two-year deal, with the option for a third.
The 30-year-old has made 160 appearances from Sydney Roosters since 2015, scoring 12 tries and kicking 63 goals.
Taukeiaho played a key role in helping the Roosters secure back-to-back NRL Premierships in 2018 and 2019. He has also won the World Club Challenge twice.
Taukeiaho said: “The Sydney Roosters has been my home for almost 10 years.
“The club and the people in it will always be very special to me. There have been some special times and I’m looking forward to creating many more during the remainder of this season.
“Like the Roosters, Catalans Dragons have a proud history and I’m looking forward to joining them in 2023.
“Joining Catalans Dragons is an exciting opportunity for me and my family. I’m looking forward to linking back up with Steve McNamara who I know well from his time at the Roosters; and also some of my former team-mates.
“While I’m pleased to have my future sorted, my only focus right now is doing my best for my team-mates and paying the Roosters jersey the respect it deserves each week I wear it throughout the remainder of this season.”
Dragons delighted to secure services of Siosiua Taukeiaho
Taukeiaho was appointed as captain of Tonga. He was won 11 caps for the Pacific island and will be hoping to play in his second World Cup this autumn.
Catalans coach Steve McNamara said: “Siua is an outstanding player and professional who will bring many qualities to our team.
“He is a very talented all round player with great leadership skills.
“I know him well from my time at the Roosters, seeing first hand just how hard he has worked to reach the highest of levels in becoming and NRL Grand Final winner on two occasions and being the current captain of Tonga.”
