Paul Rowley disappointed with ‘sloppy’ Salford

Salford Red Devils Head Coach Paul Rowley admitted he was disappointed with his side’s performance following their 43-16 defeat at Hull KR.

The Red Devils came into the contest as the form team, having won their last two matches. In contrast, Hull KR had lost their last five matches.

But it would be the Robins who would claim the two points, thanks in part to 23 points from full-back Lachlan Coote.

Rowley believed too many players were off their game on Sunday, allowing Hull KR to pounce.

He said: “Hull KR had by far the best player on the field in Lachlan Coote. That’s what you pay for – he was fantastic.

“We were really sloppy in defence. Not everybody and not across the park.

“But some players in some areas were off their game defensively. That invited Hull KR into too much territory and players like Coote will take advantage of that.

“Ourselves and Hull KR had similar plans. They came up our middle and we had a plan to go up theirs as well. Both teams can be loose in that area.

“They executed their plan and we didn’t. They played with more energy and played tougher.

“Ultimately, they got a well-deserved win.”

Salford well beaten in East Hull

Hull KR ended their five-match losing streak with a big win over Salford Red Devils at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Lachlan Coote, Ryan Hall and Ben Crooks all scored two tries each, with Ethan Ryan completing the scoring. Salford responded with tries from Kallum Watkins, Deon Cross and Joe Burgess, but fell to their first defeat since they lost at St Helens.

That result meant Salford’s two-match winning streak was brought to an end. They welcome Wigan in their next game on Friday.

Wigan will go to Salford off the back of another win, as they beat Castelford on Saturday.
