In numbers: Super League Round 16 attendances
A total of 52,319 supporters attended a Super League fixture during Round 16.
That’s an average attendance of 8,719 across the six fixtures, a 2,290 increase on the previous round – which was also the lowest of the season so far.
Wigan recorded the biggest attendance of the weekend, with 14,493 on Friday night against Toulouse. The club reopened their new and improved ‘Fan Village’ which also had the Challenge Cup on showcase. The side also celebrated Armed Forces Day.
The home supporters were treated to a 40-6 victory, with Abbas Miski crossing for four tries.
It was also the club’s highest attendance of the season so far.

Elsewhere in Super League
St Helens saw the next best attendance over the weekend with 11,628 at their clash against Leeds on Thursday. Kristian Woolf’s side ran in 26 second-half points for a 42-12 victory at full-time. Leeds remain 10th in the league table, while St Helens sit at the top on 28 points – four above Wigan in second place.
7,050 fans attended Craven Park on Sunday, with Hull KR’s clash against Huddersfield also on Sky Sports. Tony Smith’s side fell to a 38-10 defeat at home, as Ian Watson’s side displayed a dominant second-half performance.
Salford Red Devils recorded their biggest ever Super League win over Wakefield on Sunday with a 74-10 triumph. Paul Rowley’s side ran in 13 tries at the AJ Bell Stadium, including a hat-trick from winger Joe Burgess. 4,047 attended the fixture. Wakefield boss Willie Poching apologised to travelling supporters for his side’s performance in his post-match press conference.
Super League saw its only second-ever try-less game on Friday as Warrington defeated Hull 4-0 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. 8,591 fans saw Stefan Ratchford convert two goals to end Warrington’s losing streak.
Finally, 6,510 fans witnessed Castleford’s dramatic golden point extra-time victory over Catalans at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Danny Richardson kicked the winning drop-goal, with the score finishing 16-all at the end of regular time.
A total of 758,202 supporters have attended a top flight game of rugby league in 2022.
