Castleford Head Coach Lee Radford has called their performance against Huddersfield their best of the season so far.

Castleford claimed their third win in a row after a 26-18 win over Huddersfield. Derrell Olpherts scored twice, while Jake Trueman and Jake Mamo also got on the scoresheet.

They had been in control for much of the match, but Huddersfield did grab two tries back late on following the sin-binning of Paul McShane for a tip tackle. Kenny Edwards also ended the match the sin bin.

“I’m really proud of their efforts again,” said Radford. “That’s probably three weeks running they’ve really turned up for each other.

“In the first half they looked like they wanted to defend. It’s taken a while to come but we’ve got to maintain that and build on it.

“It was our best performance of the season because of the weight of possession. We got a couple of breakaways but that was reward for how hard we were working.”

Lee Radford also gives injury update

Radford also gave updates on McShane, Trueman, George Lawler Adam Milner and Niall Evalds.

Trueman was forced from the field in the second half with a knee injury, although the Castleford coach is hopeful it is not a serious injury.

He said: “It locked and he played on but it locked again,” he said. “Hopefully it’s not too bad.”

Meanwhile, Evalds was due to return for this game, but was ruled out with a chest infection.

Radford added: “Niall was good to go but the doctor rang me at five o’clock to say he had a chest infection and was coughing blood up. It was another obstacle thrown at us.

“We had Macca (McShane) on the bench because he was carrying a dead leg and he got another whack on it, George Lawler couldn’t go into nine because he had a back spasm and Adam Milner was struggling with his knee.”
