Championship: Widnes win first game under Kear & London complete impressive comeback
Widnes Vikings won their first game 38-0 under new head coach John Kear away to Workington Town in the Championship.
Matty Fozard and Sam Wilde both crossed for individual braces, while Kenny Baker and Kieran Dixon also crossed for four-pointers.
It’s the clubs seventh win of the season, while Workington remain at the bottom of the table with just one victory in 2022.
London Broncos scored 36-unanswered second half points to turn a 28-point deficit into a victory over Sheffield Eagles
Mark Aston’s side dominated the first half for a 28-0 score at the break. However, tries from Wellington Albert, Dalton Grant, Siti Moceidreke, Iliess Macani and a brace from Alex Walker saw the hosts claim their third win of the season.
Elsewhere in the Championship
Barrow Raiders claimed a 24-16 triumph away at York City Knights. Malta international Jarrod Sammut and winger Ryan Shaw both crossing for two tries each. The latter, a former Hull KR winger, crossed for his 100th career try. He also converted all four scores at the LNER Community Stadium.
Batley Bulldogs made it six games unbeaten following a 26-all draw at home to Whitehaven. A lat try from Dale Morton saw Batley fight back for a share of the spoils at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. The try also secured the winger’s hat-trick.
Luke Hooley, Jimmy Meadows and Jonny Campbell also crossing for the hosts. Ryan King (2), Kieran Hudson, Andrew Bulman and Corentin Le Cam all scoring for the visitors.
Seven tries saw Halifax Panthers defeat Dewsbury Rams 38-12 at the Tetley’s Stadium. Liam Finn’s side sit second from bottom in the table, while Halifax claim fourth spot.
Finally, Leigh Centurions scored 56-points at Odsal Stadium to claim a dominant 56-6 score over Bradford Bulls. Krisnan Inu crossed for a hat-trick, while John Asiata and Kai O’Donnell both crossed for doubles. Tom Amone, Aaron Smith and Edwin Ipape also scoring.
