Littler to retire
Swinton Lions centre Stuart Littler has revealed that he will be retiring from playing professional rugby at the end of the 2016 season.
The Ireland international announced his decision in the wake of Swinton’s 28-26 weekend win over Halifax, a result which ensured the Lions’ Championship status for another season.
The 37-year-old hopes to bring down the curtain in style on his playing career, by helping Ireland to qualify for the 2017 World Cup.
The former Salford, Leigh and Rochdale centre played for Ireland in the 2008 and 2013 World Cups.
“For the past 20 years I have been paid to do something that I love and I have enjoyed each and every moment,” he said.
“All good things come to an end, though, and I now feel that the time is right to announce that after this season I will be retiring.
“We still have maybe a few games to go and I am still keen to help Ireland qualify for the World Cup if selected.”
