Hull KR fined by RFL following complaints of homophobic chanting

The Rugby Football League have fined Hull KR following several complaints about homophobic chanting from their supporters at Craven Park this season.

The Robins have been fined £4,000, with half of it being suspended. It comes after several complaints were made about homophobic chanting from some of their supporters during matches at Craven Park in 2022.

The RFL say the club fully co-operated with the investigation into the latest allegations, that at three separate home fixtures, the offensive term “rent boy” has been aimed at one or more visiting players.

The RFL have welcomed Hull KR’s plans to introduce improved CCTV systems for next season s they step up their work with supporter groups and stewards.

The Robins plan to launch a text service for supporters to alert the club of unacceptable behaviour in real time.

Hull KR will be required to pay a suspended fine of £2,000 imposed earlier this season.

Hull KR have signed Samoa powerhouse Sauaso Sue from NRL side Newcastle Knights on a three-year deal from 2023.

The 30-year-old front-rower has made 169 appearances in the NRL for Wests Tigers, Canterbury Bulldogs and the Knights.

Sue looks to become Samoa’s record appearance holder at this year’s World Cup. He currently has 14 caps and needs just three more.

Sue will link up with his new Hull KR team-mates for pre-season training at the end of the year.

He said: “Winning a premiership would mean the world to me, the fans, and the team. That’s the biggest goal. For myself, playing consistent football and helping the boys along the way is important.”
