Ryan Sutton has played last game for Canberra Raiders

Ryan Sutton has played his last game for Canberra Raiders after suffering a hand injury.

Sutton, 27, is reportedly heading to Canterbury Bulldogs on a three-year deal from 2023.

The former Wigan forward was a regular for the Raiders in 2021, making 22 appearances.

He has played 16 times in this campaign, scoring his first try of the season against St George-Illawarra Dragons in round 22.

It is reported Down Under that he has suffered a ligament injury to his hand, that will rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart told the Canberra Times: “It’s disappointing for Sutto, probably playing his last game for the club, but he’s a very valued member of the team still – he leaves on the note he’s playing some of his best football.”

Another Englishman departs Canberra

Ryan Sutton departs Canberra having made 74 appearances across four seasons. He was left out of their opening game of this season after his move to the Bulldogs was first speculated.

That caused controversy when his partner took to Instagram in response, prompting an apology from Sutton to Stuart.

The deal still hasn’t officially been announced.

Sutton was one of several English players recruited by the Raiders around the 2019 season. Only one will remain for 2023 – captain Elliott Whitehead.

Josh Hodgson is heading to Parramatta Eels while Harry Rushton is moving to Super League with Huddersfield.

Canterbury all well out of play-off contention and sit in the bottom five of the NRL.

They have recruited back-rower Viliame Kikau from Penrith and Parramatta hooker Reed Mahoney for next season.

Matt Dufty has already left the Bulldogs to hook up with Warrington, and Paul Vaughan will follow at the end of the year.

Jack Hetherington (Newcastle Knights), Jeremy Marshall-King (Dolphins) and Brett Naden (Wests) are also heading for the exit door.
