James Bell on debut Saints season, Woolf guidance & learning from team-mates
James Bell has given an honest reflection on his debut season at St Helens so far, paying tribute to Kristian Woolf for his impact.
Bell, 28, joined St Helens on a two-year deal from Leigh ahead of the current Super League campaign. He has made 12 first team appearances in his first year at the Totally Wicked Stadium, crossing for one try.
The former NRL player admits his first season with the reigning champions has been a challenge, fighting for a regular spot under Woolf.
He also spent time back with the Centurions in the Championship on dual-registration this season, but the Scotland international is enjoying life and his development under the St Helens and Tonga boss.

Bell told Love Rugby League: “It’s obviously been a challenging season for me individually in terms of trying to establish myself in the team on a consistent basis. But I’m really enjoying the challenge.
“I’ve knocked up 12 games and hopefully I can add a few more by the end of the year.
“I think I’ve developed under Woolfy (Kristian Woolf) quite a bit, more probably so in my defence to my game.
“He’s really developed me and my wrestle and my tackle technique and little things like that.
“They’re a champion team. I’m just learning from the players as well and players that have played at this level for a long time. I’m learning from everybody to be fair.”
St Helens have the chance to win the League Leaders’ Shield this Friday if they can overcome rivals Wigan at the DW Stadium, live on Sky Sports.
“I think there’s a real good buzz around the group at the moment,” Bell added. “We’re coming towards the finals and I think everybody is getting excited for that.
“Hopefully we can go out and win a big game this week and get our first piece of silverware for the season.”
