2022 Woman of Steel shortlist confirmed

Two of the three previous Woman of Steel winners are on the six-strong shortlist for the prestigious award this year.

Leeds half-back Georgia Roche was the inaugural winner in 2018 when she played for Castleford.

Roche is joined by St Helens captain Jodie Cunningham, who is the reigning Woman of Steel. Cunningham’s St Helens and England team-mate Amy Hardcastle is also shortlisted.

It is York who have the strongest representation with three contenders. Hollie Dodd, Sinead Peach and Tara Jane Stanley are recognised for their contribution to the Knights securing the League Leaders’ Shield in the Women’s Super League.

Performances up to and including the Grand Final (September 18) will be taken into consideration before the 2022 Woman of Steel is revealed on September 22.

The Women’s Super League awards celebration takes place at Old Trafford on September 24 before the men’s Super League Grand Final. The Woman of Steel will be joined by the winners of the Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Top Tackler and Top Points Scorer awards.

Thomas Brindle, the general manager of the Women’s Super League, is the chair of the Woman of Steel voting panel.

The voting panel included four members of the media – Kyle Amor (Ireland international and TV pundit), Jenna Brooks (Sky Sports reporter), Lorraine Marsen (Rugby League World magazine editor) and Sharon Shortle (BBC). Members of England’s coaching and support staff joined them.
