Just a city boy: Jai Field enjoying Manchester life as he aims to take Wigan to Old Trafford

Dream Team member Jai Field is having an enjoyable year with Wigan on the field – but he is also enjoying life experiences in Manchester away from rugby.

The Australian speedster is having a sensational season, scoring 24 tries in 33 appearances. He has been nominated for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award alongside Brodie Croft (Salford) and Jack Welsby (St Helens).

But he’s enjoying life off the field, too. He is currently living in Manchester and adores the city lifestyle.

“Where I’m from back in Aus, I probably wouldn’t really live city life once training was done, so I’m enjoying at the moment,” Field told Love Rugby League.

“There’s always something doing in Manchester, so it keeps me sane.

“I’m living with my partner at the moment. She only comes for the summers, so she gets the best of both worlds!”

Field and French have single-handedly tore teams apart this season, with the latter finishing the regular season as Super League’s top try scorer with 31.

The Aussie pair were named in the 2022 Super League Dream Team alongside Wigan team-mate Liam Farrell.

“It’s obviously nice to be selected (in the Dream Team) but it’s a team game,” Field said.

“There’s a lot of unsung heroes in our team. The likes of me and Bev reap the rewards and score the tries but there’s a lot of work that gets done inside us and we have the platform laid for us.

“Bev’s season speaks for itself. He’s done some amazing stuff. Faz is just Faz, you know what you are going to get from him every week. He’s been selected in the Dream Team a few times now which is no surprise.

“Just having Bev there gives you confidence. I might fizz the ball out there and he might step five people and do a chip and chase or do something not a lot of people can do. It’s really enjoyable having him out there.

“Our relationship off the field probably speaks for itself with how we perform together on the field. It’s been really enjoyable.”

Field helped Wigan win the Challenge Cup earlier this year – and he has eyes on the Grand Final. The Warriors are just 80 minutes away from Old Trafford, with Matt Peet’s side facing Leeds in the semi-finals on Friday night.
