Super League Young Player of the Year shortlist announced
Reigning Super League Young Player of the Year Jack Welsby is one of three nominees for the 2022 award.
Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis and Leeds forward Morgan Gannon are the other contenders, as selected by the England Performance Unit.
The Betfred Super League awards evening takes place at Headingley on Monday September 19, where a winner will be announced.
The event will see a number of players receive awards for their achievements during the season; Top Try Scorer, Top Tackler, Loch Lomond Spirit of Super League Award, Betfred Super League Coach and Young Player of the Year and the big prize, the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel will all be presented on the night.
Young Player of the Year nominees
Welsby was named in the Super League Dream Team for a second successive season over the weekend.
The 19-year-old was selected at stand-off, having featured at centre in 2021.
He has once again been a pivotal part of the table-topping St Helens squad, starting in 27 of their games this season at either full-back or stand-off.
In Super League, he has registered 12 tries and 27 assists.
Gannon, 18, has enjoyed a breakout year in Super League in 2022 after making his debut for Leeds in the Challenge Cup in 2021.
He has cemented his place in the Leeds side, making 23 appearances, and earning a call up to the England Knights squad for a second successive year.
Unfortunately, Lewis’ season was interrupted by an injury midway through the season but he has still done enough to earn selection on the shortlist.
He was a key part of a Hull KR side that started the season strongly, off the back of their play-off semi-final appearance in 2021.
Lewis, 21, has made 18 appearances and has again made the England Knights selection.
Former Young Player of the Year winners include Leeds centre Harry Newman (2020), reigning Man of Steel Sam Tomkins (2009 and 2010) and James Graham (2006).
