Pauli Pauli “happy and glad” to sign contract extension with York
York powerhouse Pauli Pauli has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the Knights until at least the end of 2024.
The 28-year-old joined the ambitious Championship club ahead of this season from Super League side Salford. He has made 19 appearances for James Ford’s side so far.
Pauli said: “I’m really happy and glad to be staying for us to have a real crack at next season.
“I think I’ve been a bit up and down this year but, saying that, I think it’s been a good season with the boys. They have made it a bit easier for me but I know I can do better. Hopefully come next year, I can do a lot more than I did this year.
“Fordy and I have a good relationship. He’s made me feel really welcome – so has Clint (Goodchild, chairman) – since I’ve been at the club, as have the boys. I really enjoy the relationship I have with Fordy, though, and hopefully we can continue that over the next few years.”
The forward made 48 appearances in the NRL for Parramatta Eels and Newcastle Knights before switching to Super League with Wakefield in 2018.
PAULI: York is a Super League club
York boss delighted to retain powerhouse Pauli Pauli
Ford said: “Pauli is another key and central re-signing for the club. I feel he has had a good season with some outstanding moments within that.
“I do feel that we have built a strong relationship with Pauli and I feel that we will be able to use that to challenge him to be even better in 2023.
“Pauli is a key player for us in terms of getting us to the levels that we are aspiring to be at, both on and off the field, so we are all delighted to have secured his services for the next couple of years.”
