Like Arsenal under Arteta: Powell backed to revitalise Warrington
Daryl Powell can reignite Warrington next season in the same way that Arsenal have reaped the rewards of their patience with boss Mikel Arteta.
That’s the view of new signing Gil Dudson who arrives from Catalans Dragons alongside team-mates Sam Kasiano and Josh Drinkwater for the 2023 season.
Warrington have endured a miserable first season under the former Castleford boss. Only relegated Toulouse finished beneath the Wolves in the Super League table.
But with a big winter rebuild on the way, Warrington fans should see their patience rewarded next season according to their new prop forward.
“I’ve been a bit surprised by their struggles as they are perennial top four contenders but it hasn’t worried me,” Dudson told Love Rugby League.
“They are trying to instil a new type of culture and move some players on and move players in, it is always going to take time.
“You can’t just sign x, y and z and everything is going to be rosy, bring a new coach in and everyone’s happy.
“Look at how Arsenal were when they brought Arteta in, they were sitting bottom of the league for a while and now everyone is singing his praises saying he’s a genius.”

Gil and Kas to bring the power to Warrington
Dudson hopes that he and Kasiano will add power to the Warrington pack, and says he took little time in saying he’s to the move.
“We wanted to stay and were in conversation about that, then I got the call to say that Warrington were interested,” he revealed on this week’s Love Rugby League Podcast.
“It’s always a club I’ve been interested in playing for, I had a conversation with CEO Karl Fitzpatrick and Daryl and after that I was sold on the vision for the team and where they want to go, I was excited and it was a pretty easy decision.
“Sam Kasiano is coming with me as I didn’t fancy tackling him! I think we will bring what we have brought here, Kas will cause absolute mayhem and havoc. Playing off the bench with him as I have been doing is a joy as it makes my life a lot easier.”
