Ukraine conflict in Cleary’s thoughts
NRL and Penrith Panthers half-back Nathan Cleary has said he wants to reconnect with his family’s roots in Ukraine following months of conflict in the country. (Perth Now)
Cleary, 24, is expected to be in Australia’s 24-man squad for this year’s World Cup. His grandmother, Marie, was born in Ukraine.
“My nan was actually born in a concentration camp and she would have only been three when she left to move to Australia,” Cleary told AAP.
“I would love to get over there at some stage and reconnect with it.”
Dewsbury confirm departures
Relegated outfit Dewsbury Rams have confirmed their departures at the conclusion of the season.
Michael Knowles and Adam Ryder are the two longest-serving Rams players who will be leaving. Matty Beharrell, Ross Peltier, Harry Kidd, Jason Walton, Keenen Tomlinson, Jake Sweeting, Aaron Hall, Jon Magrin and Jack Blagbrough are also confirmed to be leaving the side.
Dom Speakman and Chris Annakin have both announced their retirements from the sport.
