Stop slagging us off: Time to believe says fired up Chris Hill
Chris Hill has told the British rugby league press to stop slagging England off and unite behind their efforts to win the World Cup.
The veteran prop impressed in the stunning win over Samoa after forcing his way back into the international side with a fine season at Huddersfield.
And as England bid to make it two wins out of two against France in Bolton today, a fired up Hill has demanded some respect.
“I’m sick of some of the press over here and ex-players as well getting behind other nations and not our game,” he said.
“The slagging off and going for other nations is a bit disrespectful. People complain about not growing our game over here, well I don’t think we will ever grow it with people whingeing and moaning.”
Speaking on Betfred’s Last Tackle, Hill adds that he was not surprised by some of the reaction to their 60-6 thumping of Samoa.
Chris Hill: We put on a show
“I knew the press would come out with Samoa having two injuries and a sin-binning, and nothing to do with how good we had been,” said Hill.
“And that’s all I’ve seen. What about England? We put on a show. We had that much pressure on us on Saturday and look what we delivered. And nothing has been spoken about that
“France is a different challenge and we have to keep our standards into the game.
“We want to keep improving as a team. We have already ramped up the intensity and that is what Shaun expects from us on the training field. And we want to keep the interest and excitement going and let it roll on.”
Hill also praises 21-year old Jack Welsby, who has carried his form from St Helens on to the World Cup stage.
“Jack Welsby is unbelievable, he’s like an old man in a young person’s body,” says Hill.
“He just needs a flat cap and a Racing Post under his arm and away he goes. His knowledge of the game at so young and what he sees in front of him, is unbelievable.”
