Kidwell: We need to look at ourselves
New Zealand head coach David Kidwell admitted the error-strewn display in the first half played a significant part in their demise against Australia.
The Kangaroos ran out comfortable 34-8 winners against the Kiwis at Anfield in the Four Nations final.
“It was errors that cost us in the first half,” he said.
“We just needed to get back to a decent completion rate.
“Australia got out to an uncatchable lead.”
Kidwell, who has only been in charge for a few months, refuted suggestions he is not the right man for the job.
“It’s my first tour,” he said.
“I’ve definitely learn a lot. We need to look at ourselves as a whole group.”
Australia put in a dominant performance and Kidwell insisted there were a number of individuals for the Kangaroos who were head and shoulders above everyone else.
“When you look at the Australia team there were possibly two or three immortals out there,” he said.
“I thought there big men carried the ball strongly for them as well.”
